View a list of organizations that we examined during our recommendation process. Each organization is categorized by their type of animal advocacy work and status, and you can also read our exploratory and comprehensive reviews. A small number of highly recommended organizations are available to donors who are seeking to make the greatest impact with their donations.
In addition to reviewing charities, ACE reviews individual tactics that organizations or individuals use to advocate for animals. To date we have considered Leafleting, Online Ads, Corporate Outreach, Undercover Investigations, and Humane Education. Learn more about these tactics, and our findings about their effectiveness.
One of the ways in which advocates try to reduce the suffering of farmed animals is by encouraging people to eat less meat, or become vegetarian or vegan. There are a number of factors that go into the success of such interventions, including the specific animal products that are eaten or avoided and how long dietary changes last. These factors are discussed in detail at the links below.
Some animal charities can help many more animals than others with your donation, and much of this is due to the differences in efficiency between various ways of helping animals. We explore current donation allocations for different animal advocacy causes, estimated impacts of our top recommended charities, and estimates on the number of animal lives spared using common interventions including leafleting and online ads.
We study and analyze the progress of other social movements to further inform our understanding of animal advocacy. This ongoing project currently includes case studies for Animal Activism, Fat Activism, and Children's Rights.
For those looking to dive into research on animal advocacy—either by conducting new research yourself or reading up on existing research—we provide a curated collection of research done by individuals, organizations, and academics, as well as an introduction to the Animal Advocacy Research Fund.
